Lighthouse Vision Loss Education Center Announces New Employee

LIGHTHOUSE VISION LOSS EDUCATION CENTER WELCOMES VISION REHABILITATION CERTIFIED INSTRUCTOR

SARASOTA, Fla. July 12, 2021 – The Lighthouse Vision Loss Education Center announces its newest member, Nathan LaForte, COMS, CVRT, to the organization’s Vision Rehabilitation team. LaForte will teach individuals affected by vision loss in Independent Living skills, Assistive Technology and Mobility Training. In addition, he will create a new class designed to help individuals improve their physical health.

LaForte is certified in Orientation & Mobility and as a Vision Rehabilitation Therapist. He has worked in the vision rehabilitation field for the past ten years with the Department of Veterans Affairs and has experience redesigning kitchen layouts to improve accessibility for clients, creating unorthodox training programs for mobility off-road areas, working with clients in assistive technology, including  iOS devices, Zoomtext, GuideConnect and others. In addition, LaForte maintains a CrossFit Level 1 trainer certificate, Adaptive and Inclusive Training Certificate from the Adaptive Training Academy and the Certified Adaptive Recreation and Sports Specialist Certificate from BlazeSports. He also served for eight years in the United States Marine Corps.

“With all of the technology taking over everyone’s life, it is important to get up and move to help with keeping a healthy body and mind,” said LaForte. “I hope to bring these varied life experiences to the Lighthouse to help clients achieve independence in their lives as well as helping them to improve their physical health to be better able to enjoy a wider range of activities.” 

“Nathan brings new energy and experiences to Lighthouse instructional staff,” said Madeline Spencer, COMS, CVRT, Vision Rehabilitation Manager. “We are very happy to welcome him to the Lighthouse staff and know he will bring his experience in orientation and mobility and his interest in fitness to create some amazing programming!”
