Lighthouse Vision Loss Education Center Announces Four New Board Members
SARASOTA, Fla. – Aug. 9, 2021 – Lighthouse Vision Loss Education Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that educates and empowers those affected by vision loss in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, DeSoto and Highlands Counties, is pleased to announce the selection of four candidates to its Board of Directors. These individuals represent experts from education, business and advocacy and will contribute to the Lighthouse’s mission – to educate and empower those affected by vision loss so they may enjoy happy, healthy and independent lives.
Kathryn Greenberg is a Certified Life Coach specializing in mindfulness, mental health and trauma. Kathryn was born and raised in Washington, D.C. and is now based in Sarasota. Kathryn has a degree in Developmental Psychology from Marymount University and her father, Dr. Sanford D. Greenberg, who lost his vision at the age of 19, is the force behind the Greenberg Prize and the End Blindness 2020 initiative – a groundbreaking scientific and medical research to end blindness permanently.
Alex Catera is a teacher at Riverview High. Alex, who also attended Riverview, attended college at Florida International University, then returned to teach at her alma mater. Her mother has been an educator her entire career. Alex has taught children of various ages, and plans to teach in Riverview’s IB program.
Bethany Chapman has been the Director of Human Resources at Tervis Tumbler for almost 4 years and with the company for more than 5. She earned a degree in human resource management from Western Michigan University. She completed the University of South Florida’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace Certificate in May 2021. Bethany’s husband is a Sarasota native and in the Publix management program.
Cathi Bell has been volunteering with Lighthouse for several years. She has organized several clever craft activities for clients in the Adjustment to Vision Loss classes. Cathi has an aunt who is legally blind from Age-related Macular Degeneration and received vision rehabilitation in North Florida. Cathi has served on many local Boards including The Education Foundation of Sarasota County and Pine View School.
