Children’s Program Coordinator

The Children’s Program Coordinator is primarily responsible for case management and program coordination functions, will provide instructional assistance in group settings for the Children’s Programs, and provide one-to-one instruction for children. Other duties include:

  • Receive referrals of clients from Florida Division of Blind Services.
  • Establish initial contact with the client’s family.
  • Interpret eye/medical reports as they relate to educational environments.
  • Perform and document various assessments with children and teens.
  • Create a tracking system to monitor required documentation that include Quarterly Performance Reports, Semi- Annual Assessment Updates and Annual Performance Reports .
  • Participate in Family Support Plan or Individualized Educational Plan meetings as needed.
  • Participate in transition planning for entrance into school as needed.
  • At the beginning of each contract period, discuss with DBS, district office which of the clients under their jurisdiction will continue in the program for the next year and which will be terminated from DBS jurisdiction (generally due to non-cooperation and non-attendance).
  • Assign clients to appropriate instructors and enter case note explanations for any who decline service.
  • Monitor wait lists, if any, for timely service provision.
  • Schedule and coordinate year-round group field trips and outings for children, teens and their families and arrange transportation as needed.
  • Coordinate summer programs for children and teens.
  • Provide assistance to children, teens and certified instructors in group settings.
  • Create lesson plans as requested for group instruction.
  • Recommend appropriate service delivery plans, ancillary support services, equipment/ software, and time frames.
  • Provide training to visually impaired children and teens in counties of service: Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, DeSoto and Highlands.
  • Provide parent and family training as necessary.
  • Complete and enter into the database all reports and statistical information required by Lighthouse to document client progress, including assessments, goals, and progress notes, prior to established deadlines.
  • Support Lighthouse’s fund-raising activities.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as needed.
  • Obtain any professional development courses and/or certificates that will benefit the Children Program as continuing education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
